The IPK Student Board (IStB) welcomes you on the IPK Students Page! This website is intended to gather information which can be of interest to all current and prospective PhD and Diplom students at the IPK.
On this start page we have put together some facts which are frequently asked and probably most valuable for new students.
If you are new at the IPK, go to this site. There you will find a lot of useful and interesting information about life at the institute and in Gatersleben, not only for students.
The IPK has established a graduate program for PhD students. General information about it can be found here. To date, the main focus of the graduate program are the PhD seminars.
The best way to get regular and up to date information about meetings, PhD seminars and social events is to join our mailing list ipk.dok@ipk-gatersleben (to do this just write an email to Dr. Jank and ask to be included).
Information about most seminars at the IPK (i.e. Gatersleben Lecture Series, Waterman Seminars, Vavilov Seminars, Genetic Seminars) can be obtained here. Especially the Gatersleben Lecture Series provides an optimal opportunity to learn about a variety of topics, methods and to talk to established scientists. All students are encouraged to attend as may seminars as possible, which is not easy... we know ;-).
Beside the PhD seminars, another good chance to practice giving talks to a bigger audience is given by the student conferences, which take place annually. These conferences are organized by PhD students themselves, and they are also a perfect possibility to get to know other students and their research. In 2005, 2006 and 2008 the conferences (ISC 2005, ISC 2006, PSSC 2008) took place in Gatersleben, but also students from other institutes with a focus on botany were invited. In 2007 and 2009 the Plant Science Student Conference took place in Halle and was organized by the PhD students of the IPB in Halle. Many students from our institute attended this conferences.
The coordination and organization of PhD seminars, student conferences, and social events like movie evenings or parties is mostly done by members of the IPK Student Board.
