In addition to the examination regulations of the university in which the doctorate is to be undertaken, there are basic principles and regulations at the IPK which are intended to be of essential help in the early recognition of problems concerning the doctorate and to facilitate success. the doctorate course should not exceed a period of three years
at the end of the doctorate the candidate is expected to have produced a minimum of one peer-reviewed publication
in addition to the responsible tutor, an experienced member of the academic staff, if possible from a different internal or external working group, will be appointed as mentor for each PhD student
the doctoral student is expected to participate regularly and actively in the PhD Program and other academic courses and seminars at the IPK
regular meetings between the doctoral candidate, his/her tutor and mentor have to take place
the student should present his/her research results annually in a seminar
the general intention of the IPK is that in addition to subject-related studies, all doctoral candidates should also acquire general key skills such as hypothesis-based research, a good academic approach to studying, the preparation of academic publications and presentation of research results, the application for research funds and also team work and basic knowledge within the area of technology transfer. The course of studies offered is particularly aimed at the encouragement of interdisciplinary thinking and working.
