Research Interest

The deliberate use of genetic diversity is strongly dependent on our knowledge about the genes that underlie the expression of phenotypic traits. Therefore, the overriding goal of the research group is the development of biological resources, molecular tools and strategies facilitating an improved utilization and conservation of plant genetic resources. Research activities are mainly focussed on barley and agronomically important species of the Poaceae, including wheat, rye and Lolium. Moreover, integrative genomics approaches are applied by using the model genomes rice and Brachypodium.  The research activities of the group are organized in two areas, research into conservation and utilization of genetic diversity (DIVERSITY LAB) and the development of genomics resources for the structural and functional analysis of Triticeae genomes (GENOMICS LAB). Further details can be retrieved from the corresponding publications and from annual reports.

Scientists of the research group are teaching at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.
