This research group focuses on modelling, analysis, simulation and visualization of biological networks in the context of plant biological problems.
Our aim is the development of software tools for the analysis of complex metabolic and regulatory networks. Therefore we attempt to integrate and process data from different areas of genome and proteome research and to present the results in a user-friendly way. The emphasis is on the linkage of experimental data about expression profiles, metabolite and protein pattern with metabolic and regulatory networks. The information and complex connections will be modelled using graphs. Graph (network) analysis and interactive visualization methods will be used to discover network properties and to make the data easily accessible to the user. A subsequent step is to use the data for the simulation of metabolic and regulatory networks. The aim is to compute predictions in addition to the experimental approaches.
In addition to the development of software tools, theoretical questions will be approached. The focus is on questions about the structure and properties of networks in order to detect conditions for the stability and plasticity of living systems and to simplify the simulation of networks.
