The group Technology Transfer and Legal Matters is responsible for the following tasks:
- Technology Transfer
- Legal Matters
- Scientific Library and Documentation
The objective of IPK's Technology Transfer is to transfer scientific results into the economic system and to generate the contractual framework for co-operations both with industrial science as well as other scientific institutions.
The group Technology Transfer and Legal Matters (TTR) is responsible for the legal reviewing, drafting and negotiating of all contractual arrangements which may occur in this field. Namely these are:
- Material Transfer Agreements,
- Confidentiality Agreements,
- Research & Development Agreements,
- Co-operation and Consortium Agreements (mainly for joint projects),
- Licence and Option Agreements.
TTR co-operates here closely with the respective scientific project leaders as well as the other responsible working groups (mainly Personnel and Finance).
Together with Finance TTR does the controlling of existing contracts and the allocation of licence revenues in accordance with internal regulations.
Another central aspect of TTR's work comprises of the co-ordination of all the Institute's patent matters and the further development of an active patent policy and the responsibility for all matters pertaining to industrial property law. In this context TTR is the first contact for all questions concerning employee inventions and TTR advises the scientific personnel on their reports on employee inventions.
Patent applications are made via contract patent attorneys, external advisors help the Institute in certain exploitation matters.
Any success in the process of technology transfer is based mainly upon a very close co-operation with the scientists of IPK, who often build up these contacts on their own and have the necessary knowledge on how to apply their results.
Successful examples for technology transfer are the start up companies at the Campus Gatersleben that are spin-offs from the institute and to which various business connections exist.
Pertaining to Legal Matters TTR takes over the legal counselling within the Administration and Central Services Department.
