Eye-catching new calendar: 'Chromosome Biology 2026'

The new 'Chromosome Biology 2026' calendar, now available to download from the IPK Leibniz Institute website, offers fascinating insights into the world of chromosomes.

"We are delighted to offer the ninth edition," says Andreas Houben, head of the ‘Chromosome Structure and Function’ research group at the IPK Leibniz Institute. The calendar features 13 colourful and impressive images of various chromosomes. Brief explanations of the selected motifs can be found at the end of the calendar. Work on the calendar usually begins in the summer. “We write to colleagues all over the world and ask them to send us images from their respective fields of research,” says Andreas Houben. He and his colleague Jörg Fuchs then select the most beautiful images. Jörg Fuchs is also responsible for the editing of the selected photos. “But that’s not all. This year, he has also developed a completely new layout for the calendar.”

The calendar reflects the international nature of research. As well as several photos from the IPK, the new edition features images from Poland, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and India. The plants depicted range from wheat and rapeseed to crocuses.

Alongside the new calendar, Andreas Houben announces that the next meeting of chromosome biologists will take place from June 1 to 5, 2026, in Olomouc, Czechia.
