Mission

Die bildbasierte Pflanzenphänotypisierung ist heutzutage ein unverzichtbarer Bestandteil der quantitativen Pflanzenforschung, mit deren Hilfe wichtige Pflanzeneigenschaften und ihre Veränderungen in Abhängigkeit von genetischen und Umweltfaktoren erfasst und studiert werden können. Schnelle Fortschritte in der Pflanzenbildgebung ermöglichen es Forschern, eine große Menge multimodaler Bilddaten - einschließlich RGB-, Fluoreszenz-, Nahinfrarot- und 3D-Bilder - zu generieren. Um eine große Menge multimodaler Bilddaten zu verarbeiten und nützliche Informationen über strukturelle, entwicklungsbedingte und funktionelle Pflanzeneigenschaften abzuleiten, sind effiziente Lösungen für quantitative Bildanalyse erforderlich.

Die Forschungsgruppe Bildanalyse befasst sich mit der Entwicklung von Algorithmen und Softwaretools zur quantitativen Charakterisierung (Phänotypisierung) morphologischer, physiologischer und wachstumsrelevanter Pflanzenmerkmale aus multimodalen und mehrdimensionalen Bildern, einschließlich der Bilddaten aus Hochdurchsatz-Gewächshaus- und Feldphänotypisierung, mikroskopischer, tomografischer und 3D-Bildgebung.

Die Aufgaben der Bildanalyse umfassen strukturerhaltende Bildvorverarbeitung, supervidierte und unsupervidierte Bildsegmentierung, Registrierung, Mustererkennung, Datenklassifizierung, Computermodellierung und phänotypische Beschreibung relevanter Pflanzenstrukturen (z.B. Sprosse, Blätter, Wurzeln, Ähren, Samen, Gewebeschnitte und Zellen). Die Gruppe arbeitet eng mit Pflanzenbiologen, Bioinformatikern und IT-Wissenschaftlern zusammen.
