Aggregator information systems such as the European Search Catalogue for Plant Genetic Resources (EURISCO) are cornerstones for making information on plant genetic resources (PGR) available to researchers and breeders. Information that is as comprehensive as possible is the basis for PGR users to select and access the material they need for their scientific and breeding activities. However, those systems are only as good as the information provided to them by the data providers.

As part of a project funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), a comprehensive framework for a data quality index (DQI) is to be designed, implemented and validated, enabling the systematic assessment and improvement of the quality of PGR data in EURISCO.

To strengthen our team of the research group Genebank Documentation, we are looking for an experienced researcher to join us from 1 July 2026 at the earliest to help develop this framework.

Your tasks:

  • Define and assess data quality dimensions and metrics
  • Validate the framework through pilot studies
  • Design an interactive data quality visualisation platform
  • Embed the framework into EURISCO’s operational workflows
  • Promote adoption and capacity building

Your qualifications and skills:

  • You hold a master’s degree in the field of plant genetic resource conservation and have relevant professional experience in this area as well as in genebank documentation and management.
  • You are familiar with aggregator information systems, such as EURISCO or Genesys, as well as with the data landscape in the field of PGR in general.
  • You are familiar with common data standards in the area of PGR, such as MCPD and MIAPPE.
  • You are familiar with the FAIR and CARE principles and the concept of data stewardship.
  • You have experience with various metrics for measuring data quality.
  • You have a very good command of written and spoken English.

You fit to us:

  • if you have technical understanding and logical thinking skills.
  • if you are a team player, determined and open to new challenges.
  • if you are precise and reliable.
  • if responsible and independent work is a matter of course for you.

We offer you:

  • an international, interdisciplinary working environment at the interface between life sciences and computer science.
  • the possibility to work on a large project in a friendly and familiar atmosphere.
  • a full-time position limited to 36 months according to §2 WissZeitVG.
  • a salary in accordance with the German TV-L pay scale up to pay group E13.

If you need further information, feel free to contact Dr. Stephan Weise (tel.: +49 39482 5-744) directly.
